Our Fire District
Thanks for your interest in membership with the Felton Community Fire Company, becoming a member of our volunteer organization will bring you great satisfaction, excitement and create life long friendships. We are always searching for Firefighter's, EMT's, and Members to help with non emergency activities such as fund raisers, administrative duties, and general work detail.

How to get started
Submit a completed application along with required documents as outlined on page one of the application. This can be delivered in person or by mailing it to Felton Community Fire Company, PO Box 946, Felton, DE 19943 ATTN: Membership Committee. A Member of the Membership Committee will contact you to schedule an interview. After your interview you will be voted on at our next monthly meeting which is the first Wednesday night of each month. We would like to thank you for taking the time to consider assisting your fellow neighbors in a time of need, and please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. Below you will find an overview of benefits offered to Members.

Pension Plan
All active members in the department are eligible to receive a pension for service rendered as a volunteer in the Delaware Fire Service. Currently the company will pay for half of the $120 pension premium for every active year you receive if you chose to participate. The pension plan is vested after 10 active years. The maximum pension credit is 25 years. Pension benefits start at age 60.

Training
All training you receive is paid for by the company. Most training is conducted at the Delaware State Fire School or in-house. There are also out of state training opportunities through conferences and seminars.

Scholarships
There are many types of State and County scholarships available to assist college bound members in achieving college goals.

Equipment and Gear
All equipment and safety gear needed to perform department duties is provided. In most cases, fire and EMS gear are fitted and assigned to the member. Safety is top priority and every measure is observed to assure that members are properly protected.

Blood Bank
As a member you are eligible to join the Blood Bank. The company pays for all membership fees and annual dues. The department will continue to pay the annual dues as long as you remain a member. Your obligation is to supply a blood donation when called by the blood bank or make a payment to the blood bank in replacement of a blood donation.

Workman's Compensation
As a member you are eligible for Workman's Compensation at no cost to you. Workman's Compensation will provide you with money for immediate expenses if you should be unable to work due to an injury received during a fire company alarm or function.

Line of Duty Death Benefit
All members of the company are covered by a Line of Duty death benefit (Life Insurance). The Federal and/or State Government will provide up to $100,000.00 in life insurance payments to a deceased volunteer firefighter or ladies auxiliary member who is killed in the line of duty during a fire department alarm or function.

State Tax
Active members of a fire department or auxiliary are eligible for a $400 state income tax credit.

Funeral Expenses
A maximum of $ 7,000 in funeral expenses for a member paid directly to the funeral director by the funeral director submitting the proper form to the state.

Delaware Federal Credit Union
Members are eligible to join the Delaware Federal Credit Union.

Firefighter License Plates
Members are eligible to get a special "Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's License Plate" for their vehicles through DMV.

Health Care
The Delaware State Department of Public Health provides Hepatitis C shots. Some firefighters may also qualify for flu shots.

Malpractice
Volunteer firefighters are exempt from liability for any damages alleged to have been sustained while the volunteer was giving aid. Firefighters are only liable if the damages were caused willfully, wantonly, recklessly, or by gross negligence.
