Catherine T. Lockwood

Mrs. Catherine Tatman Lockwood died Sunday, June 26, 2005, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood, where she lived for the past month. Mrs. Lockwood was born May 1, 1910, in Ellendale, daughter of George A. and Mae Sherwood Tatman.

She worked most of her life in food service, working in the cafeterias of both the Felton School District and General Foods, retiring several years ago.

She enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Lockwood was a faithful member of Felton Viola United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson D. Lockwood in 1969; a brother, Clifton W. Tatman in 1980; two half-sisters, Ina Moss and Mary “Steve” Yerger; and a son and daughter-in-law, Linford and Estelle Lockwood of Dover; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty L. Fraizer of Viola and Joan L. and Claude H. Peterson of Felton. She also is survived by two grandsons, Steven A. Lockwood of New Jersey and Joseph N. Peterson and his wife, Nancy, of Harrington; and three great-grandchildren, Jared S. Peterson, Adam J. Peterson and Ethan H. Peterson.

Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Catherine joined the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary in May 1947 and continued serving to become a life member.  You could find Catherine with her hands in the oysters getting them ready for the men to fry.  In 2007, had she lived, she would have been a 50 year member.  Her mother, Lillie Mae Sherwood Tatman, was a charter member of the auxiliary.  Several other Sherwood uncles and aunts were also members of the FCFC organization.
