Mamie Still Adams
Funeral services for Mamie Still Adams, 90, of Dover, were held Sunday at Price Funeral Home, Harrington.
Mrs. Adams, formerly of Felton, died of congestive heart failure Friday, October 4, 1991, in Silver Lake Nursing Center.
She was born December 16, 1900, the daughter of Francis J. and Mary E. Still.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Clayton Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Harrington Senior Center and Felton United Methodist Church. She was a Gold Star Mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cannon Adams, who died in 1925 and a son, Loran Adams, who was killed in 1944 during World War II. The VFW Post 6009 in Felton, is named in his honor along with two other local soldiers: Caleb Simpler and John Ware.
Mrs. Adams is survived by a son, Richard Adams of Felton; three grandchildren, Richard Adams Jr., Cathy Draper and her husband Ron, and Keith Adams and his partner, Ned Travis; and two great-grandchildren. Her son, Richard, served in World War II, receiving many awards and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Heart Medals and the P.O.W. Medal.
Interment was in Bridgeville Cemetery.
Mamie joined the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary in October 1948 and continued serving to eventually become a life member. You could count on finding her working in the kitchen. Her grandson-in-law, Ronnie Draper, is currently a life and 50+ year FCFC member.
