Clara Louise Crouse
FELTON – Clara Louise Crouse of Felton died after an extended illness Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 64.
Mrs. Crouse was born in Woodside, daughter of K. Dorothy Dill of Felton and the late Earl Andrews.
She was a retired employee of the state of Delaware, where she worked in the state insurance department.
She was loved and revered by a legion of friends and colleagues who depended on her to take charge, speak her mind, and “keep them straight.” She was well known to remind people to “Read your book”.
She was a very involved member of the Harrington Women of the Moose since March 1, 1969 and, with more than 34 years of dedicated service, Chapter 1229, where she held several offices and positions at the local and regional level. These positions and offices included senior regent 1973-1974; Academy of Friendship May 7, 1972; College of Regents June 12, 1976; star recorder May 28, 1983; deputy grand region 1987-1988. She was a life member since May 6, 1993.
Mrs. Crouse was also the kitchen chairperson for 16 years and took charge of many dinners.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harry Richard ‘Dick’ Crouse of Felton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Nancy Crouse of Waldorf, Md. and Doug and Karen Crouse of Harrington; two daughters, Debra and Ralph Fitch of Clayton and Sandra and Mike Hernandez of Dover; and five grandchildren.
Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Mrs. Crouse was a life member of the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary joining in April 1962. Her husband, Dick, was a long time member of the FCFC. Her mother, K. Dorothy Dill, is currently a life and 50+ year member of the Auxiliary. Dorothy is one of our past Auxiliary presidents, as well as past Kent County President, and State Auxiliary President.
