Emma Bradley Kates


FELTON - Emma Bradley Kates, of Main Street, died Thursday, June 4, 1981 in Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a short illness.

 

Mrs. Kates was a charter member of the Sarah Rebekah Lodge #16 I.O.O.F. and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Adams Simpler Ware Post 6009 of the VFW, both located in Felton.  She was a member of the Felton United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence J.; a son T. Lawrence and a daughter, Salena Kates Sherwood, both of Felton; two brothers, John A. Bradley of Harrington and Arley Bradley of Greenwood; two sisters, Elizabeth Jaggers of Hacks Point, Md., and Catherine Cannon of Farmington; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Burial was at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton, DE.

 

Emma joined the Felton Community Fire Company Auxiliary on March 14. 1951 and continued serving to eventually become a life member.  Her son, T. Lawrence Kates is currently a life and 50+ year member of the FCFC.  Daughter-in-law, Margaret Kates, was a life and 50+ year Auxiliary member.  Daughter, Salena Kates Sherwood was a life Auxiliary member and son-in-law, Robert Sherwood was a charter, life and 50+ year member of the FCFC.  Granddaughter, Cheryl Sherwood Gladden and great-granddaughter’s Caprecia Gladden Zdradzinski, Catrena Gladden Welch, Casondra Gladden Cain and Julie Marie Gladden are past Auxiliary members.
